Sorry I haven't written in over a week! Just to catch you up on the rest of my orientation weekend we got to see the Productions office (where I work) and we visited the World Golf Hall of Fame. They had a virtual golf simulator and the guy called me up to play in front of everyone. That was embarrassing. At least I hit the ball!
My first day of work I met everyone, I mean, everyone there was to meet at the office. My boss took me around to every office and I shook hands and tried to remember names. Everyone was really nice and I got to eat lunch with my roommate at Fairways Cafe nearby.
Most of last week was spent logging tapes, which means I record each clip of a whole reel of film and describe what is on it. For instance, when I was doing interview tapes I would have to transcribe word for word a full interview. One tape would usually take me a day. A little less than a day if the person speaking was easy to understand and didn't use fillers like "I mean, you know, and like." People use them so much these days that I overlook those phrases and I have to type verbatim so I had to rewind a lot to catch those things.
I got to sit in on a voice over recording for Behind the PGA Tour which runs on the Golf Channel. That was really cool, the man who does the voice overs is also their on air talent. I got to sit in behind the scenes of the control room of an online live telecast of On the Tee, and the next day I got to see it from inside the studio. The guy who does voice overs was also a host for the show.
This week I have a special project to edit a Memorial Presentation from The Players Tournament. Tim McGraw performed and they honored everyone in the military. I get to edit the video together, just splice things together and make it fluid and to condense it. I watched the video today and Tim McGraw was a great performer. They also had a husband surprise his pregnant wife and their child from wherever he his military base was. She thought he was on a ship somewhere, because he was in the Navy. But they surprised her, I almost cried there right in the logging room.
This past weekend was really fun and relaxing, laid by the pool Saturday and yesterday we went to Mickler Beach which is in Ponte Vedra. Thank goodness for good weather!
Well my birthday is coming up so I will be celebrating in Jacksonville with my intern friends and in Gainesville with my home friends! It shall be exciting!
I'll write later when I get a chance!
Teeing Off,
Leah
