Orientation

I can't believe my study abroad trip is over with. Monday was the longest day of travel. We woke up at 5 am to leave for Heathrow. Our flight home was so much better than our flight to Ireland. There were about 196 movies to choose from and my tv was a touch screen. I chose to watch Hannah Montana and Princess Diaries and thankfully I caught up on a lot of sleep.

When we arrived in Newark we sat on our connecting flight for a good two hours, were then deplaned, and then we sat there for another hour. Finally they told us we were able to board and the weather had cleared up so we hauled our hineys onto the plane. The flight wasn't bad but we ended up getting into Orlando at 11:00 pm opposed to 6:30 pm.

I spent the night with my sister and she let me drive her Mercedes the next morning to head back to Gainesville. That day was very overwhelming. I unpacked my suitcase and then shopped for business attire because my closet has NONE. Then I repacked my suitcase. I met my friends from home that night to catch up after not seeing them for a month and then I passed out from exhaustion.

Yesterday I left early to move into my apartment. It was really easy to place my things everywhere because I had everything packed from my trip. I finally got to see Harrison and we ate Bono's with his mom for lunch.

I finally got to meet my roomies Emily and Laura when I arrived back in the apartment. I met another girl Annie who lives in the 932 apt with 3 other girls. Luckily we only have the three of us so it isn't as crowded. I am sharing the master bedroom with Emily. The bathroom is huge and the bedroom is a decent size.

We headed to our reception where we got to meet all the other interns. There are 32 of us, and we were all selected out of 1500 applicants. Everybody was really nice and not pretentious at all. I thought that was pretty neat. We got to mingle and eat hourdourves. They had a powerpoint with our names flashing on the slides with our bios on them. Someone said, "Look! They have our bios on the PowerPoint!", and just as I looked up my slide was there.

Our intern supervisor made a speech and read pieces of some of the essays aloud. Most of the time, the chances of mine getting read aloud is slim to none but he read part of my diversity essay out loud! It was quite the surprise, but a pleasant one. I also got to meet my supervisors and they were extremely nice and I am even more excited to work with them now. My office is 45 minutes away so I will have to commute, but fortunately my other roomie Laura works there so we can carpool!

Today was a long day of speakers. I learned a lot about the industry and all the different jobs. They provided us with meals which was very convenient. And at the end of it all we ate at a place called Clarks Fish Camp which was filled with stuffed animals. When I say stuffed animals I mean animals that were living, then died, and then were stuffed. It was so bizarre in there, but definitely a fun environment. It was also next to the water so we watched a lot of people boating on the river. We got to eat some alligator tail, fried green tomatoes, and fried pickles for an appetizer, and then I enjoyed a yummy seafood pasta. Dinner gave me the chance to talk to some of the interns and get to know them better. We are thinking of starting a group online so we can start planning outings.

Tomorrow we actually get to golf, this should be interesting! I'll update later!

Teeing off,
Leah
